Immersive Creation hackathons in Paris and Berlin for co-creation around immersive experience design.

In 2018, The Immersive Creation Challenge was the first French hackathon of the immersive arts. It was initiated as a collaboration between the Le Secret theatre in Paris, French House of Experiential Design Madame Lupin and US production company Epic Immersive.

40 designers worked together for 48 hours following a unique creation process in order to create an immersive experience open to the public at the end of the hackathon. All the participants were cast to devise a multi-disciplinary ensemble of artists of different cloth.

In 2019, the Experience Design Challenge gathered a global and eclectic community of creators who were curious to collaborate, experiment, and co-create immersive experiences. The co-organizers were Beverly Jiang, Aga Szostek, Alexander Grots and Mélanie Dorey.
30 creators from various backgrounds ranging from business to game design to theater came together for a hackathon to design, produce and perform immersive experiences for audiences in Berlin.

In both Paris and Berlin I was invited to help facilitating the ensemble of creators and artists. From leading theatrical warm-up games in the morning for the entire ensemble to streamlining the dramaturgy of a smaller group, I had a great time learning and exploring with this international pool of talented and enthusiastic makers. The devising process leading up to the shows brought about wonderful bouts of creativity and lessons on utilization of space.

Even though I ended up creating and performing two fantastical characters (ruff ruff the ranced dog in a Brothers Grimm inspired story in Paris, Booga the forest fairy in Berlin), I enjoyed the dynamics and creative aura of artists coming together to design experiences and think outside the realm of conventional theatre the most.
