To Work is to Play

October 3, 2021

Well, it’s full steam ahead now! I am genuinely so humbled and grateful to get to be a part of history in the making with the inception of Hotel Wonderland, truly one of the most exciting new international immersive theatre IP’s I’ve come across in years. After more than a year of helping out the producers doing R&D, facilitating workshops and aiding in the casting process I am now involved as assistant director of this production. A personal milestone for me, as well, to be able to learn from such talented people involved, including the incredible creative team of Cinereal Productions. Rehearsals have been underway for over a month now and I can’t wait for you to come experience it. It’s wild.

In the meantime – over the summer I’ve had the pleasure to join the latest Stone Soup. This is now my 4th edition and every year just seems to have been getting better. Apart from all the amazing co-created experiences, theatrical enterprises, brainstorm sessions and embellished dinner parties I am grateful I got to put into practice an MVP version of something I like to call “Artlantis”, a concept in which the participants get to be both the artists and the audience, the architects as well as the archeologists. While my main artistic motivaton behind experimenting with a ‘relay-experience’ such as this is to play with the idea of becoming aware of our place in history, it was mostly very fun to start constructing an Indiana Jones themed setting in which our fellow conspirators got to enjoy being adventurous while co-creating the lore of a fictional world together. I’m looking forward to seeing how we can take this further.

Finally, because what is work these days but a series of playful events, I got to travel to Sarreguimines, France, where we had the official premiere of the film Comme Des Grands. I’m glad I was able to be present for this amidst rehearsals for Hotel Wonderland, as this was the town we shot most of the film in. It became somewhat of a personal affair to the mayor of the town as well as our director, Ania Gauer – and it seemed to be a big hit amongst the local people as well. That my folks happened to be around and were able to attend was just icing on the cake –  as avid supporters of my career choices it feels good to celebrate the wins together. If you have kids, support them in their silly dreams.
